Dynamic Content & SEO Lesson

Ok if by now you're chomping at the bit wanting to see some tricks you can use in your HTML code, and other more technical areas of effective SEO just slow down a bit. A lot of people get the misconception of that being the key to internet marketing but it's more involved than that. While although it's most definitely a critical element in any optimization initiative, it's just one of many steps necessary for long term results and sustained website traffic. Don't worry, there will be plenty of the technical stuff yet to come, but first let's cover another subject that can help improve your website traffic from search engine hits.

Dynamic content is the name of the game. By this we're talking about content built into your web design which is commonly and randomly changing but still as relavent as possible to the site. To give you a better idea here we'll use another cheesy scenario of many to come, to help you get the picture. Back when the internet was still young, and webpages were pretty much just electronic business cards. It wasn't a big deal if your website stayed exactly the same every day, month after month. Obviously now that the internet craze has caught on, there's a lot more to contend with on the world wide web.

A search engine likes the idea of a website being more than an electronic business card these days, and to act as an actual resource. So much so that they reward websites with dynamic content, and up to date information. Going back to those pesky search engine algorithms you've been introduced to. When a search search engine spider finds recent dates and timestamps in various areas of your content it's a good thing. By showing that you have new things going on and offer fresh content in not only the form of recent dates, but actually providing new and fresh elements for those spiders to index.

They will in turn provide better search results for their users because of your efforts and so will favor you in their result placement positions. While at the same time you're accomplishing the goal of getting people to not only visit your website, but have a reason to return it! There's a lot of ways you can accomplish this with some being more involved than others but let's cover a few. If you're using a third party system for your web presence then chances are you can still accomplish these things. We're still at the very beginner level of search engine optimization so don't worry about the "code" stuff quite yet.

  • Add New Content: If you have the ability to add new pages, publish new articles, provide useful information in any way. Then utilize it! Take the time once a day, once a week, whenever you have some downtime to put something out there. Every time you provide something new and relevant to be indexed by the search engine spiders, it gives them a reason to be there right? If they have a reason to come back often, you will increase your website traffic which is the whole goal here..

  • RSS & News Feeds: If you're using a third party system for your website then chances are there is the ability to both use, and provide "syndication" to and from your website. Or there's a huge amount of free RSS scripts out there to display adds and news from other website's through your own. This allows you to give visitors more current information on everything from current world events in the news, to updates from your favorite new ProfessionalsWeb articles entry. We'll explain RSS (Really Simple Syndication) more in other articles, but for now just keep your eye out for icons on other sites that say RSS on them or look like this. RSS/XML

Also keep in mind trying to offer your own content through RSS feeds if you have the capability to do so, and encouraging your visitors to utilize them. We'll touch on this subject more in the pages to come, but keep in mind that the more places you can be found on the internet the better. What more perfect way to both help yourself, and the person who displays your RSS feeds on their website? You get the additional traffic, they enrich their website content by providing more information.

  • Comments / User Interaction: When you give your website visitors the ability to directly interact with your content it builds your exposure in many ways that some don't recognize. By giving your visitors the ability to interact with your content you're not only establishing a feeling of association which encourages them to return. You're also likely generating new relative content without even having to work, which is perfect. So allowing comments, providing forums, establishing a user base, can be massively beneficial. Not only that, but if you provide visitors the ability to share your content easily through email, or their interaction elsewhere on the internet via social sites and other venues. Then before you know it they're helping promote your website for you! By the way, obviously we encourage you to share this site with friends! :)

    For example:

You should walk away from this page with the idea that you aren't your website's only resource when it comes to potentially increasing your traffic. Don't be so modest so as to no take advantage and lay some of the internet marketing tasks on complete strangers. If that doesn't make sense, go apply some things you may be thinking about related to what was just covered. You'll begin to see how much help your website's visitors can be when it comes to increasing your traffic quicker than you think. Now, this step ties into the in-bound & out-bound linking step coming up soon in this article. So keep the idea of getting more exposure, equals more website traffic and better search result placement positions fresh in your head and continue to the next page.
